This page is our own summary, not an official document, and may be incorrect or out of date. The policies are the authority.

Insurance comes from two places: the club’s affiliation with Badminton England, and each player’s own Badminton England membership.

Club cover

Our affiliation includes liability insurance for the club and its committee, arranged by Howden on behalf of Badminton England. For the 2025-26 policy year it covers:

CoverLimit
Public and products liability£10m, plus £5m excess
Professional indemnity£5m
Abuse£2.5m
Employers’ liability£10m
Management liability£5m

This protects the club if it is held responsible for injury to someone or damage to their property. It does not cover players themselves.

Individual cover

To be insured, players need their own Badminton England membership. It is optional for club nights, but required to play in the league. Membership runs until 31 October each year.

Community

The basic membership. It includes liability insurance (public, products and professional indemnity), which covers you if you injure someone or damage their property while playing. It does not cover your own injuries.

Compete

Adds cover for your own injuries and kit. For the 2025-26 policy year:

CoverLimit
Public and products liability£10m, plus £5m excess
Professional indemnity£5m
Medical expensesUp to £25,000
PhysiotherapyUp to £500
Dental and optical expensesUp to £2,500
Broken bones£250 to £500
Hospitalisation£50 a day, up to £750
Temporary total disablement£50 a week, up to 104 weeks
Permanent total disablement£50,000
Death£10,000
Equipment (rackets, bags etc.)Up to £200, £50 excess

Personal accident cover applies while playing, training or competing anywhere in the world, including travel to and from it in the UK. Compete members also get a 24/7 counselling service through Aviva.

Taster sessions

Newcomers are insured for up to six taster sessions before they need their own Badminton England membership. This is liability cover for the newcomer, given through the club’s affiliation; it does not cover their own injuries.

It only applies if the club records each newcomer’s name, address and dates of attendance. The Racket, our members app, takes care of this: the address from their profile, and the dates from the games they play. From their sixth visit they must be members, or the cover may be invalidated.
