Introducing The Racket, our members app
23 October 2026
We’ve built an app just for our members, and it’s called The Racket.1
Pop the score in after each game and the leaderboard updates straight away. Playing a game is all it takes to mark you as there. Your profile keeps your membership status and emergency details in one place. Our privacy notice explains what we hold and who can see it.
Once you’ve played a few games, your home page shows your best partner and suggests an even game, with who to partner and who to play against. The players it picks may not be at the club that night, which makes it a good excuse to ask them along.
The Racket is invite only, so you won’t find it on the app stores. See you on court!
…get it? ↩︎
Our kit arrived!
20 October 2026
Our 2026 kit has arrived, and we wore it on court for the first time last night. The shirts are made by Kit and Bone and carry the logo of our sponsor, CBB Architects, who paid for the kit. Thanks again to them for their support.
All the gear, no idea? Come and find out. We’re hoping the kits give us 10% more skill and intimidate our rivals!
As far as we know, we’re the only badminton club with numbers on our shirts…
Our first South Cambs League fixture
8 October 2026
We’ve played our first official league fixture! Badders Mafia 1 have entered Open Doubles Division 3 of the South Cambridgeshire Badminton League for the 2026-27 season, alongside Cambridge City 2, CBA 2, David Lloyd 1, Ely 3, Ely 4 and Ramblers 1.
Our opening match was away to Ely 3, who won 9-0. A tough start, but no surprise for the underdogs – we’ve learnt a lot, and every game from here is a chance to improve. Ely 3 were great players and a friendly bunch; thanks to them for hosting us.
Follow our progress in the Open Doubles league tables.
Making it official
8 August 2026
Badders Mafia is now an official club. We’re affiliated with Badminton England (club number CL008546) and the Cambridgeshire Badminton Association.
So what does that mean?
- We’re insured. Affiliation brings liability insurance for the club and the people who run it. Players are covered through their own Badminton England membership.
- We can compete. Being part of the county association means we can enter local leagues and competitions.
- We’re easier to find. We’re listed on Badminton England’s club finder.
To run things properly we’ve chosen a committee to look after the club, and we’ve opened a club bank account so fees go straight to the club.
Thanks to everyone who helped get us here!
2026 kit ordered
22 July 2026
Our first proper club kit for 2026 is on order! The shirts are made by Kit and Bone, in black with a red and purple slash pattern, and carry the logo of our sponsor, CBB Architects, who we’d like to thank for their support.
Expect us to look the part on court, even if the scoreboard doesn’t always agree. We’ll post photos once it arrives.
Update: it’s arrived!
Our first AGM
21 July 2026
We held our first AGM and formed a committee to run the club:
- Chairman: Cal Bryant
- Secretary: James Checkley
- Treasurer: Silvio Fusiello
- Wellbeing Officer: Oliver Brookes
We also shared out the jobs that keep the club running:
- Silvio: court bookings, membership fees, and our Facebook and Instagram accounts
- Silvio and Cal: health and emergency information
- James: affiliation with Badminton England and the Cambridgeshire Badminton Association
- Cal: creating, hosting and maintaining the website
We discussed the possibility of entering a league (spoiler: we did), and how to encourage new members to join. Know someone who’d like to play? Point them our way!
